LMPay is the native Lawmatics payment solution. Use it to collect payments such as consultation fees, retainers, etc. This payment solution differs from our full Time & Billing solution, which you can learn about here. The Time & Billing feature is necessary if you would like to track time and expenses, as well as automate payment invoices.
As of September 24, 2024, all firms registering for LMPay are enrolled in Version 2. LMPay Version 2 includes an updated payment-processing platform, improved reporting, simplified surcharge accounting, and additional refund functionality.
Registering for LMPay Version 2
To get started with the registration, go to your settings page and select LMPay from the left sidebar menu and select the "Register Firm" button.
A layer will slide out from the right to submit the LMPay application. Fill out each of the necessary steps at your convenience.
Once your application has been submitted, you’ll be able to track its status directly on the same page you started the registration on! Application approval typically takes 24-48 hours.
As part of the underwriting process, our payment processing partner, Confido, may reach out to your firm to verify business information. This is a standard requirement and helps ensure fast, secure approval.
Important: If a Trust Account is needed after the original application is approved, the firm must provide us with a voided check and a signed bank letter.
Processing Fees & Supported Card Types
LMPay Version 2 requires no additional monthly fee or subscription. The following processing fees apply to transactions:
ACH: 0.5%
Non-AMEX Cards: 2.95%
AMEX Cards: 3.25%
Processing fee statements are available on the 1st of each month. The corresponding fees are generally debited from the firm’s operating account on the 2nd or 3rd, though the debit may be delayed by a weekend or holiday.
LMPay Version 2 supports the following card types:
Mastercard
Visa
American Express
Discover
JCB
Diners Club
Surcharge Accounting
When surcharging is enabled, surcharge amounts paid by clients are withheld and automatically applied toward the firm’s monthly processing fee statement.
Previously, surcharge funds were deposited into the firm’s operating account and collected again during monthly billing. With the updated process, those funds are applied directly to the statement, reducing the amount debited from the firm’s operating account.
