Advanced Conditional Logic & Filtering

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Take your data analysis to the next level with Advanced Conditional Logic in Lawmatics. This powerful tool allows you to combine multiple criteria using both "AND" and "OR" conditions, giving you greater flexibility to:

  • Uncover hidden insights

  • Track trends

  • Build precise audiences

  • Automate more intelligently

  • Customize documents dynamically

This feature is available in Reports, Audiences, Automations, and Custom Documents.

πŸ“Š Reports & Audiences

Advanced conditional logic works similarly in both Reports and Audiences. Let’s walk through an example using a report.

πŸ” Example Use Case

You want to create a report showing matters that:

  • Have a source of "Referrals"

  • AND are in EITHER the "Business Law" or "Elder Law" practice area

🧠 Understanding Default Filter Logic

By default, filters are applied using a basic relationship:

  • All filters use either an "AND" or an "OR" relationship

  • You cannot apply mixed logic (some "AND", some "OR") without advanced logic

For example, if you add:

  • Source = Referrals

  • Practice Area = Business Law

  • Practice Area = Elder Law

You can’t specify that only the two practice area fields should be linked with an "OR" unless you use Advanced Filter Logic.

βš™οΈ Using Advanced Filter Logic

  1. Create a report or audience as usual.

  2. Add your desired filters.

  3. Click the Use Advanced Filter Logic button.

  4. In the Filter Logic box, manually type the filter conditions using their numbered order and parentheses.

This will filter for:

  • Source = Referrals (1)

  • AND

  • Practice Area = Business Law (2) OR Elder Law (3)

βš™οΈ Automations

When using the "Match on Fields" entry condition in Automations, you also have access to Advanced Conditional Logic.

  1. Set up the field match conditions.

  2. Enable Advanced Filter Logic.

  3. Use parentheses to group your "OR" conditions just like in reports.

πŸ“ Custom Documents

When setting conditional visibility for content blocks in Custom Documents, you can also apply Advanced Conditional Logic.

  1. Select the block where you'd like to apply conditions.

  2. Enable Advanced Logic in the visibility settings.

  3. Enter your logic using "AND" and "OR" relationships with parentheses as needed.

πŸ’‘ Why Use Advanced Logic?

Advanced Conditional Logic offers powerful customization across Lawmatics:

  • Build precise reports and audiences

  • Trigger automations with complex entry conditions

  • Create personalized documents with dynamic content blocks

Whether you're running campaigns or segmenting clients, this feature provides unmatched control for tailoring your workflows and communications.
